Books That I am Reading

Not that I am an avid reader, but I do read. Here is the rundown.

The Secret of Divine Civilization - I just finished it. Read it quickly. Want to read it again. Seeing the current state of affairs, I dont think this advice was implemented. So sad. When will we learn?

The Strange Story of the Quantum - I read the prologue a while ago. Read the prologue agian. Banesh Hoffman did such a good job summarising (prologging) the past with cameos from Hertz, Maxwell, Newton and others. I am hoping this book will have all the excitements of Atoms, and Light and a Quantum or two. But I guess its all relative.

Live and Let Die - Bond, James Bond. Finished it. Entertaining, but, glad its over.

The Tabernacle of Unity - About halfway through. Good stuff. Study it.

Gleanings from the Writings of Bahá'u'lláh - It's one of those books that I've read most of in random order. I thought I would go through it, cover to cover (well, electronic version has not covers, but you know what i mean).

Star Trek - the original with Cap'n Kirk

I had trouble falling asleep last night. So, I finally fell asleep. I woke up in the middle of the night. I read for an hour or so and then fell asleep again. I woke up again, and, for some strange reason, the TV was on - Star Trek. I was too tired to get up and turn it off so I just went back to sleep. When I woke up in the morning, exhausted, I was thinking, that's strange, I dont own a TV set.

So, the question is, did I really read out of The Secret of Divine Civilization?

-3640 The Magical Mystery Solved

I found out the mystery behind -3640 offset. You see, the PID loop has a default out put of 50%. And the output limits do not change the output; it just clamps the normally 0-100% to the limits settings. So, with a proportional band of 8000 and limits of 3.5-5.5%, it takes an error of -3540 to bring the output to 4.5. So, what I had to do was remove the limits and set the proportional band to 80. Now the output of 0-100% is unacceptable for the pressure setpoint. So I have to scale it to 3.5-5.5 Bar.

So, thus the question is this, how did it work in the first place?

School Days

Looking back on the past, it seems as though history was always after math.

-3640 The Magical Mysterical number

Can somebody please tell me why on the PID loop that generates the pressure set point in the cascade for flow control seems to have an offset of -3640? If I put in that number for the setpoint, and then vary the flow about zero, then the output of the loop behaves as predicted. Like wise if i put the setpoint at -1820, and vary the flow about 1820 it also behaves as predicted.

Since I can vary the setpoint and the process variable with the same results, I must conclude that the problem is not one of them. And then I disconnected the PID from the cascade and sent the output to a dummy variable. Same thing! So the problem must be the PID, right? What could be wrong with the PID block? Its the same PID block that is working correctly in many other places ... except one, but that's a different story altogether.

Well, I heard somebody say last night that the Rockettes have landed! I hope they are not jet lagged or jet legged.

Bosom

And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.
(King James Bible, Exodus 4:6 )

So I was keen on finding out what is the historical and/or cultural significance of "bosom". So I went to the trusted folks (any thing that the cat dragged in - with an internet connection ) at Wikipedia. And this is their entry on "bosom" - warning nudity (that's a warning, not encouragement). It basically just defined them as "breasts" as well as shows a few pictures of the female variety. So, I tried Wiktionary. The same definition, but, gives you the translation into several languages.

Who'da thunk that the answer (or at least the short answer) is at dictionary.com:

bos·om (bzm, bzm)
n.
    1. The chest of a human: He held the sleepy child to his bosom.
    2. A woman's breast or breasts.
  1. The part of a garment covering the chest or breasts.
  2. The security and closeness likened to being held in a warm familial embrace: We welcomed the stranger into the bosom of our family.
  3. The chest considered as the source of emotion.

More Mandolin Mayhem

In learning the mandolin, I realized that I actually am musically inclined. Its just that the slope is the wrong way. Does that make me declined?
